Cast Iron Fireplaces
The industrial revolution brought about significant change, and meant that for the first time goods could be mass produced. The Victorian era brought about the Victorian Cast Iron Fireplace. Cast Iron Arched Fireplaces, and the familiar Victorian Tiled Insert Fireplaces became very popular throughout the 19th. century. The Victorian Cast Iron Fireplace was to be found in wealthy and poor homes alike. Iron founders designed new Cast Iron Chimneypieces which combined the Cast Iron Grate and Cast Iron Surround in one unit, often called Combination Fireplaces or Bedroom Fireplaces The Cast Iron Grate was relatively small, but generated ample heat by radiation from the metal. The height of the popularity of Cast Iron for use in Fireplaces was the Late Victorian period, but it continued in widespread use until after the Edwardian era and the beginning of the 1920's.
